A D R O N I T I S

in my eagerness, all I want to do is excavate.
it will not do to flick pebbles off the surface;
I want to get my hands dirty.
I am not afraid of things getting stuck under my fingernails.

I want to dig as deep as it goes.

in my haste, I want to uncover and pull out each artifact, examining them all at once. I do not care if they are muddy and scuffed. I just want to see them.

bordering carelessness—caring too much?

maybe it is better to relish in the process—to pull out the treasures one by one, over hours, days, months, centuries.

but usually my hands are claws, so
I keep them behind my back.
